Dr. Alreen Day Alfonso is known to many as “Day” and has been in an outpatient physical therapy practice for over 15+ years. Dr. Day is the co-owner and co-founder of BEAT Physical Therapy. Her passion for working with patients inspired her to open her practice along with her husband John, who is also the financial manager of the company.

Dr. Day is a Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. This is a recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience, and skills in Orthopedic physical therapy given by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

As a Certified Integrated Manual Therapist (CIMT), she is a trained specialist to assess whole body dysfunction using current evidence-based treatments. She is experienced in the use of muscle energy techniques, myofascial release and advanced joint mobilization and manipulation. Through the years, she gained extensive knowledge and practice in performing rehabilitation of post-operative patients including treatment of rotator cuff repairs, joint replacements, spine fusions, ACL and Meniscus surgeries, Achilles tendon and other muscle repair surgeries, amongst others.

Dr. Day is a “double certified” Trigger Point Dry Needling Practitioner in Maryland serving Baltimore County, Baltimore City, and Howard County, and has been performing the procedure since 2012. She works with patients with varying conditions from a headache to plantar fasciitis using this technique. She received her dry needling training and certification from MyoPain Seminars and KinetaCore.

She also works with a lot of chronic pain patients by utilizing trigger point dry needling, Kinesiotaping and manual therapy. Along with the help of her patients, she thoroughly assesses all the possible factors affecting pain chronicity, which includes, but not limited to, physical activities, sleep patterns, diet, water intake and stress management. This helps her address all the possible causes of chronic pain and aids in proper treatment and referral to appropriate medical professionals.

She performs selective functional movement assessment for athletes, runners, and active individuals to prevent and treat movement dysfunctions. This is done by giving corrective exercises and providing a full rehabilitation program including home exercises and injury education. Dr. Day is one of the few practitioners in Maryland to be certified in performing Blood Flow Restriction Therapy (BFRT) using an FDA approved device to improve strength and promote muscle hypertrophy for return to sports training.

She completed her degree in Doctor of Physical Therapy at Arcadia University, Glenside, PA. She recently became a Certified Kinesiotaping Practitioner (CKTP). Dr. Day is completing her pelvic floor certification through APTA Women’s Health Section. She is also completing a series of courses provided by NAIOMT to attain her Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapy (COMT) certification.

Dr. Day is also a certified clinical instructor to multiple physical therapy and physical therapy assistant programs in Maryland. 

In 2019, the American Institute of Balance grants Dr. Day as a Certified Vestibular Rehabilitation Practitioner.

Dr. Maria Arini, PT, DPT, CMTPT, CSCS received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland in 2011. She advanced her manual therapy skills in an orthopedic and sports medicine rehabilitation setting, treating patients with diagnoses ranging from post-operative joint replacements, ligament reconstructions, tendon repairs, and sports injuries to chronic spinal pain. Dr. Arini then worked for and studied under Dr. Jan Dommerholt, one of the top progressive physical therapists in the US and founder of Myopain Seminars, through which she completed her Trigger Point Dry Needling Certification. She gained an expertise in treating patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome while working for Dr. Dommerholt. She recently joined BEAT Physical Therapy where she will continue to further advance her clinical knowledge and apply her expertise. She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist for athletes through the NSCA. Dr. Arini is a former marathoner and works with sports enthusiasts, treating runners and athletes to improve their performance without pain.

Dr. Arini received dual degrees from the University of Notre Dame in 2008 in Arts and Letters Pre-Professional Studies and Music. She is Certified in Performing Arts Medicine through Shenandoah University, and has a strong interest in treating singers, dancers, and musicians. She also has an interest in the manual treatment of individuals with orofacial, laryngeal, and TMJ dysfunctions as well as hand and upper extremities disorders. She is in the process of getting her Cranio Facial Therapy Academy Certification (CRAFTA) through Myopain Seminars as well as her Certified Integrated Manual Therapy (CIMT) Certification through Great Lakes Seminars. Dr. Arini intends to become certified through Barral Institute in visceral mobilization, particularly for individuals with gastroparesis.

Dr. Arini works as a full-time specialist at BEAT Physical Therapy where she designs and implements customized treatment programs for multiple diagnoses using advanced therapy techniques. 

In her spare time, Dr. Arini enjoys reading, running, traveling internationally, learning new languages, attending concerts and plays, yoga, singing in a choir, archery and gun shooting target practice, and spending time with friends! She is also interested in beginning a study of martial arts.

Dr. Sarah McTamany, PT, DPT is a recent graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore, Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Dr. Sarah has experience working with patients with various orthopedic and sports injuries, as well as patients with neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease, stroke, brain injury and spinal cord injury.  Dr. Sarah recently joined BEAT as a full-time therapist and hopes to utilize her knowledge and expertise in order to treat patients with personalized and modern techniques.

Dr. Sarah grew up in Frederick, MD where she was active in various sports including lacrosse, field hockey and track. Dr. Sarah later went on to play collegiate lacrosse for four years at Muhlenberg College, where she received her undergraduate degree in Biology and minor in Public Health.

Dr. Sigri Reyes

Dr. Sigri Reyes, PT, DPT received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Andrews University in 2013. Dr. Reyes has experience working with various orthopedic and sports injuries, has been trained as a concussion specialist and is a Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine(NASM). Through her personal experiences in pregnancy and postpartum, Dr. Reyes’ interest peaked in this specialized field and has recently been taking various courses through The Tummy Team to expand her knowledge and treatment techniques to better serve the pre/postnatal population. She is a Pre/Postnatal Exercise Specialist through Knocked-up Fitness.

Dr. Reyes moved to Maryland from Michigan after graduating from PT school. While completing her undergraduate degree in Journalism, she was actively involved in various intramural sports including flag football, basketball, softball, and soccer and also started as a point guard for the Andrews University Women’s Basketball Team.

In her free time, Dr. Reyes enjoys exploring and having outdoor adventures with her family (husband, two young boys, and two dogs), baking, working out, and watching the Dallas Cowboys win!

Dr. LaLa Cho, PT, DPT received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from University of St. Augustine in 2013. She is a Maryland native who received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at UMBC. She previously worked at Forever Fit Physical Therapy in Burnsville, MD before joining BEAT Physical Therapy in Columbia, MD. Because of her exemplary professional skills, performance, qualification, and high ethical standards, she became the Program Coordinator of Forever Fit’s Women’s Health Pelvic Floor Service, and an Intermittent Clinic Director while Forever Fit founder was on maternity leave. Her passion as a pelvic floor specialist allows her to help women prevent, treat or manage pelvic dysfunctions and pain even in the population of pre/post partum. She is also a big believer in educating the public so you can find her hosting talks and seminars about the importance of pelvic healthy in women where ever she can.

Dr. LaLa Cho has outpatient orthopedic experience treating patients with various orthopedic injuries, with strong interest in spine rehabilitation, back pain management, post surgical joint replacement physical therapy treatments, neuromuscular traumas, pediatrics, and sport injuries in addition to her specialization to pelvic floor dysfunction.

Dr. Lala has background in gymnastics and dancing. Salsa, hip hop, jazz and contemporary are her favorite.  At the age of 12, she suffered a partially torn meniscus at the age of 12 that led her interest in physical therapy. Her fitness interest helps her connect to patients who are suffering from these related injuries.

When Dr. LaLa Cho is not working she loves spending time with her 6 month old, husband and friends, staying active through running, spinning and weight lifting and most importantly she loves to eat!

Tammy Ghimire is a Maryland licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. She graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College with an AAS degree in PT Assisting in 2010. She completed a BA in Spanish and sociology in Minnesota prior to this, later changing her professional course to follow her passion in providing PT services. Although she has experience in multiple PT settings, she has practiced most in outpatient orthopedic clinics. She is proficient in oral and written Spanish. Tammy enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, hiking, and keeping up with research to continually advance her PT care skills.

Tammy is a proud Member of Kinesio Taping Association International and effectively applies kinesio taping techniques to help BEAT Physical Therapy patients get better. Tammy is an outstanding clinician and well loved by patients.
